Indicative Fees

The following figures provide an indication of the fees which may be charged by barristers at Temple Court Chambers for Public Access work.

These figures are estimates and are not quotations.

All figures exclude VAT. VAT will be added where the barrister instructed is VAT registered.

General Advice and Drafting

Initial conference/advice: £250–£750
Written advice: £500–£2,500
Drafting straightforward court or tribunal documents: £350–£1,500
Drafting complex pleadings, grounds, skeleton arguments or other substantial documents: £750–£3,500
Hourly rate where applicable: £150–£350per hour

Employment Tribunal Cases

Initial conference and advice: £250–£750
Written advice on merits: £500–£2,000
Drafting ET1 or ET3: £500–£1,500
Preparation for a preliminary hearing: £500–£1,500
Representation at a preliminary hearing: £500–£1,500
Preparation for a final hearing: £1,000–£4,000
First day of final hearing: £750–£3,000
Each additional hearing day: £600–£2,500
Remedy hearing: £750–£2,500

More complex discrimination, whistleblowing, multi-day or high-value claims may attract fees above these ranges.

Immigration Appeals

Initial conference/advice: £250–£750
Written advice: £500–£1,500
Preparation of appeal and/or appeal documents: £750–£2,000
Preparation of appeal bundle where undertaken by the barrister: £500–£1,500
Preparation of skeleton argument: £500–£1,500
Representation at First-tier Tribunal substantive hearing: £750–£2,000
Representation at Upper Tribunal hearing: £1,000–£2,500

Applications or appeals involving particularly complex legal or factual issues may attract higher fees.

Family Financial Disputes

Initial advice: £350–£1,000
Written advice: £500–£2,000
Preparation for and representation at a directions hearing: £750–£2,000
Financial Dispute Resolution hearing: £1,000–£3,000
Final hearing: £1,250–£4,000per day

Fees will depend particularly upon the value and complexity of the assets, number of documents and anticipated length of the hearing.

Personal Injury

Initial advice on liability and/or quantum: £350–£1,500
Written advice: £500–£2,000
Drafting pleadings or schedules: £500–£2,000
Interim hearing: £500–£1,500
Trial: £1,000–£3,500per day

Winding-Up Proceedings

Advice concerning a winding-up petition: £500–£1,500
Drafting or reviewing a statutory demand or petition: £500–£1,500
Advice and preparation in defending a winding-up petition: £750–£2,500
Representation at a winding-up hearing: £750–£2,500
Contested or complex hearings: £1,500–£4,000per day

Motoring Offences

Initial advice: £250–£600
Guilty plea/mitigation hearing: £500–£1,000
Exceptional hardship or special reasons hearing: £750–£1,500
Contested Magistrates' Court hearing: £750–£2,000

Why Might the Fee Vary?

For an individual quotation, please contact:

the barrister's experience and seniority
the complexity of the legal or factual issues
the volume of documentation
the number of witnesses
the value or importance of the case
the number and length of hearings
the amount of preparation required
whether expert evidence is involved
whether additional written submissions are required
the location of the hearing
the urgency of the instructions
whether work is required during evenings, weekends or public holidays
significant changes to the client's instructions
additional work which could not reasonably have been anticipated when the original fee was agreed
developments in the proceedings caused by the court, tribunal, opposing party or another third party

A fee will be agreed with the client before the relevant work is undertaken.

Where circumstances change and additional work becomes necessary, the client will normally be informed of the additional work and proposed fee before that work is undertaken.
